House Style of the Month: Cape Cod Colonial
August's house style of the month is the Cape Cod Colonial Style.
Early Cape Cod Colonial style homes were crude in design, one room on the first floor and a sleeping loft in the area above. This design experienced a surge in popularity from 1920-1950 due to the presence of a kitchen, multiple bedrooms, and a spacious, yet compact dining room. The Design Team (St. Cloud, MN) can outline a 1/2 Cape Cod, 3/4 Cape Cod, or full Cape Cod style home depending on your preferences.
Cape Cod homes are usually 1 1/2 stories with 6" white or gray lap siding and 10:12 to 12:12 roof slope. Some defining features of these homes include double hung windows, a gable roof, dormers, small overhang, 6 panel door, center chimney, and wood shingles on the roof.
