House Style of the Month- Salt Box Colonial

The Design Team offers St. Cloud and other areas home plans of all different styles. If you are looking for a slightly different spin on a traditional style, consider the Salt Box Colonial, our house style of the month.

History of the Salt Box Colonial
The salt box started as a small farm house and grew in size because it was added to over the years. Lean-tos were often added to the rear of the house, extending the roof on a steep slope. The rear of the house was oriented to the north to ward off biting winter winds. Its name comes from its resemblance to a box that salt was shipped in from Europe to America.

House Style of the Month - Colonial

b2ap3_thumbnail_Sept02_Inspirational.jpgThe Design Team offers St. Cloud home plans of all different styles. If you are looking for a traditional design that never goes out of style, you may want to consider the colonial, our House Style of the Month.

History of the Colonial House

The colonial style house was derived out of the Colonial period of the US during the 1700s. The first colonial homes were two stories with one room per floor. Over time, the colonial developed into what is known as the four-over-four style, meaning four rooms on each of two stories.

Colonial homes come in many sizes, but all share certain features. One of these is a symmetrical design with a front door in the middle of the front of the house. These homes will have two windows on either side of the entry door, and five across the top level, one of which will be over the front door. Colonials will have a pitched roof and a stairway that is behind the front door.

Colonial homes have been around since the dawn of our country, and never go out of style. Call the Design Team today to find out more about this beautiful, traditional home plan.

Characteristics:
Double-Hung Windows
6" Lap Siding
6 Panel Doors
10/12 to 12/12 Roof Slope

Occasionally Side Lights By Front Door Were Used

House Style of the Month - Mission House

MissionCustomHome_TheDesignTeamThe Design Team offers St. Cloud home plans of all different styles to match our customers’ needs. If you want something a little outside of the box then consider our house style of the month, the mission house. Our St. Cloud, MN home design can make this a reality for you.

History of the Mission House
The mission house style was first developed in the Western U.S. around the year 1800. This house style started to take root in the West as settlers became aware of the cultural and architectural past of the region. They then decided to incorporate some of these elements when building their homes, copying the style of old mission churches in the area.

Characteristics of the Mission House
There are a few design elements that really help the mission house stand out and embody the mission church style. Mission style homes are often built with a hip roof that has tile. They are also easily recognizable by their stucco walls and arched doors and windows. Casement windows with small panes of glass and a front door with many panels are also common features of the mission house.

Remodeling your St. Cloud home with a mission house design is sure to bring new life and flavor to the neighborhood.
